Her Smile

A hundred miles,

Never too far to imagine her smile,

Try to compliment, but she’s filled with denial,

Next I see you, won’t you stay a while?

So I can see that beautiful smile.

Reassurance Even on the Darkest of Nights

A blackout occurred on a night that could never be forgotten in a young and innocent girl’s life. The rain touched the ground as if its plan was to shatter it, the trees swayed as if the branches were hands intent on snatching someone away into the night. Then there was the wind which roared as if it wanted to get at the girl, taking her innocence away and changing her into something unrecognizable. The only thing stopping it was the windows surrounding her house and if they broke, it was as if it would clench her and take her away into the night; she would never be heard of again. Though, this wasn’t the least of her troubles.. . She heard shuffling near a corner and saw a flash of lightning which revealed a little tiny boy; who looks exactly like her little brother, but as she got closer and closer, she realizes that this boy is pale white and shivering. She goes to comfort him, her hand about to touch his shoulder but he opens his mouth wide and she sees hundreds of jagged teeth, she turns to run but he grabs her leg. She starts screaming at this point but no one can hear her, he’s pulling her back slowly, her nails trying to dig into the floor so she could save herself. All of a sudden, the lights come back on and he’s not there anymore but there’s tears flowing down her cheeks… She looks up, and an older boy is standing in front of her, his hand outstretched, he says in the most caring voice that she’s ever heard, that she called him by mistake and that he heard her screaming but she wouldn’t reply.  That he rushed over and he’s sorry he took so long. She looks at him, he’s shaking and he’s completely drenched in water but it seems as if he doesn’t care because he’s there with her. She grabs his hand and as she does she looks into his eyes, she realizes that he isn’t shaking because of the water but because he was afraid he was going to lose her tonight and he still is… She hugs him and she don’t let go, partly to reassure that he has nothing to be scared of and that she’ll always be there for him, though mostly because she’s still afraid of what happened before he arrived and she likes having someone just there for her no matter what..He says he has to go, but she doesn’t want him to, he stays there with her, until he’s sure that she’s alright and she feels completely safe. Then he starts walking towards the door, she says his name as gently as she can, he says she means so much to him and he cares about her a lot and that he’ll be there whenever she needs him. Reassured that this girl who he thinks is so amazing and beautiful is going to be alright, he walks out the door. All the way home, he walks alone but with a smile that hasn’t come upon his face in a long time.., it’s there because he knows she’s fine. That night, in bed at last, he’s the only thing that she thinks about, and she realizes she doesn’t have to be afraid of anything as long as he’s there, that he’ll be her reassurance even on the darkest of nights (L).
